EDI: Introduction and Overview

Rail Industry Guidelines for EDI: Introduction and Overview

Foreword
It is intended that the information in this section serve as a comprehensive EDI business management tool, as well as a technical description on how the standards are used in specific cases between business partners. This overview has been written for different audiences, ranging from the general manager responsible for implementing EDI, to the technicians who will perform the data requirements and the programming efforts.

We have made a good faith effort to ensure that the Implementation Guideline for EDI is accurate and reflects the needs of the trading partners within the railroad supplier community. Committee members meet regularly to review, revise and initiate guidelines as needed. Any EDI partner using the rail industry guidelines is encouraged to identify any errors or inconsistencies and bring them to the attention of one or more of the committee members.
