The batteries are placed within a frame which has been exactly sized to fit and is nailed to the deck of the pallet. The frame consists of two 2″ x 4″ x 40″ lower and two 2″ x 2″ x 48″ upper wooden cleats. Each pair of batteries is separated with a 27″ x 11.875″ x .125″ fibre/masonite divider for a total of four sheets per package. All contacts must be capped. A honeycomb style corrugated filler is placed on top of the battery to provide further protection to the contacts. Stretch wrap secures the package. Labels warning against stacking must be applied to the package. SPECIAL CAUTION: Electric storage batteries containing electrolyte acid or alkaline corrosive battery fluid must be completely protected so that short circuits will be prevented. They must be firmly secured to pallets capable of withstanding the shocks imposed on them by transport. See DOT Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR) for further clarification.
